Oratorical Contest

American Legion Post 191 Oratorical Contest

Your Voice. Your Constitution. Your Opportunity.

The American Legion Oratorical Contest gives high school students an opportunity to develop confidence, strengthen their public-speaking skills, deepen their understanding of the United States Constitution—and compete for scholarship awards.

Post 191 is proud to provide local students with an opportunity to begin their journey in one of The American Legion's premier youth programs.

Contestants prepare and deliver an original speech focused on an aspect of the U.S. Constitution, with emphasis on the duties and obligations of citizens to our government. Students also demonstrate their knowledge by speaking on an assigned constitutional topic.

The journey starts right here at the Post level.

Successful contestants may advance from:

Post 191 → District → Area → Florida State Finals → National Finals

The Florida State winner advances to the American Legion National Oratorical Contest.

More Than a Speech Contest

Students gain experience in:

  • Public speaking and presentation

  • Leadership and confidence

  • Constitutional knowledge

  • Civic engagement and citizenship

  • Research and critical thinking

  • College scholarship competition

National scholarship awards are substantial: $25,000 for first place, $22,500 for second, and $20,000 for third, with additional national-level scholarship opportunities for students who advance.

Ready to Take the Stage?

Post 191 welcomes eligible local students who are ready to challenge themselves, strengthen their voice, and learn more about the Constitution that shapes our nation.
